....and he is going to blow soon thanks to appearing on Santogold's album.
His Name Is Trevor Andrew and he's a Pro Snow Border from Canada. In 06' He started his band in Brooklyn, NY... round' my hood Williamsburg and Over East in Bushwick. Yeah I actually grew up here and I have as many issues with "hipsters" as much as the next native, but I fucking love his music. Every track; the whole lot of em'...
The video above was shot on streets all too familiar to me. I mean seriously these are streets I just drive past everyday, to get to and from my neighborhood... I never thought they looked that good at all... in retrospect I thought our neighborhood was pretty crumby and grimey. As a youngster I remember that "The North Side" was deserted save for some obscure people living illegally in "warehouses," and a couple Polish Drunkard bars. Boutiques and Thai restaurants popped up everywhere around 97' and just quadrupled from there. While that happened; the crappy illegal half-done warehouse spaces, that more "Bohemian" people lived in...were re-done into actual legal housing due to heavy attention from officials.
AND THEN BOOM!
Skyscrapers and condos blocking my view. Mind you, I only live a block away from the water front... An influx of dirty people and albeit lice in the neighborhood that probably has oil in the ground water?! Blah! A million dollars to live down the block?! For a "scene"?...
I can't front its super cool and chill out here, and I've met some awesome people, but I don't understand why you want to live in Brooklyn. I personally love it here because I see That Bridge and I know I'm home. I have a lot of still shots in my brain of staring at that crossing from my window through the many "growingstages of my life.
But honestly... it's really just a shitty looking, half done, bridge, over a body ridden river to another shitty, project ridden part of the city that got gentrified. The view actually sucks, unless you were down by me way past "The South Side", and you saw our NYC skyline view. Yet, once the twin towers were gone it might as well be Chicago you're looking at.
Anyway point is, I'm over seeing people struggle to live here. I'de much rather get my money's worth and move to another state or even COUNTRY and buy A million dollar HOUSE there and live well and send my kids to good schools. You will not catch me at the age of 35 STILL living in WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN. Mark My words.... Well I just did. :)
