Syria wants the US to explain the raid which killed eight civilians [Reuters]

The Syrian government has warned of retaliation if the US strikes again across the border from Iraq, demanding that its sovereignty be respected.

The warning came a day after Syria said eight people were killed in a US helicopter attack in the border village of Sukariya.

On Monday Syria's foreign minister accused the US of conducting a planned act of "criminal and terrorist aggression" in broad daylight with "blunt determination".

Walid Muallem, speaking in London, said he did not believe the killing of civilians had been a mistake and warned that "we would defend our territories" if there is a repeat of the weekend raid.

"All of them are civilian, unarmed, and they are on Syrian territory," he said, adding that among the dead were a farmer, three children and a fisherman.

'Criminal and terrorist'

"Killing civilians in international law means a terrorist aggression. We consider this a criminal and terrorist action," he added.

Syrian state television reported that four US military helicopters were involved in the incident as families buried the dead in the village near the town of Abu Kamal.

"American soldiers ... attacked a civilian building under construction and fired at workmen inside, causing eight deaths," the television report said.
Muallem said his government held the US responsible for the civilian deaths and wanted an investigation to explain why the raid had been carried out.

He also raised questions about how a pact between the US and Iraq over troop deployment next year could impact on neighbouring countries.

Following news of Sunday's attack, the Syrian government summoned the senior US and Iraqi envoys to Damascus to protest against the raid, the Syrian Arab Sana news agency said.

What more can I say? I'm honestly just scared, we have never really been attacked by a foreign country since Pearl Harbor. I work in Midtown, what if they seriously do attack us?

  2. Honestly nothing yet. But in my opinion he is equal to Bush. If he becomes Dubya's predecessor, we can expect A LOT more threats and problems like this.

These types of incidents have happened many times in the past.
Syria harbors many terrorist organizations like; HAMAS, Jihadists, etc.
They have also harbored high ranking Iraqi war criminals, and allowed the free flow of weapons into Iraq. Don't feel sorry for them.
As far as the collateral damage is concerned, every professional soldier employed by our own army is composed of fishermen, construction workers, teachers, police officers, etc. So what's their point. You get what im saying?
We should be scared. We still have to protect our interests. Or would you rather stick your head in the ground and hope this all goes away?

As if the event discussed in the link you posted happened prior to the Iraq invasion and occupation.

Since Saddam and his Baathist party was the problem in Iraq, why didn't we go ahead go after Syria? Does Syria have any WMDs?

I guess the Baathist party was started for no reason.

I guess organizations like Hamas and the Islamic Jihad ultimate objective is to wipe the great Shaitian (ie, the US) off the face of the earth.

And what exactly constitutes a professional soldier? The TRUE PROFESSIONALS make up a small fraction of our military.

What interests do you have to protect? Oil? Is that real reason we went to Iraq? You handed Iraq to Iran on a fucking silver platter. What interests are you talking about?

Oh wow... Look at me: I'm just rambling and shooting random questions...
